One matter of my pondering is the erratic nature of this here blog. I say that ’cause I see other blogs that have a straight-on direction. You know, they may write about writing or do reviews, things of that sort. Now, you may not have noticed at all but there have been a couple of times when I got stone bored with blogging but like other matters in life, I saw my way through it and kept chugging away.
On the backside of all this, I’ve been writing a lot of flash fiction as I, mentally, try to work out how I need to restructure my novel. Now, this is the novel I aim to finish first ’cause it’s the same one I took to my critique group that helped me define my writing style. Let me say this folks, Totsymae is the writer and the other person is the artist. The artist ain’t been painting so much ’cause Totsy’s taken over after so many years of not writing faithfully. And that’s okay. With this collection of flash pieces though, I’ll be doing a lotta drawing and painting soon.
Any ole how, sometimes I have to reflect on this blog so that it’ll keep my interest, as well as yours. Certainly, I don’t wanna write nothing where you can see I’m totally distracted or the blog’s turned into a Hollywood gossip column. Well, I do like dabbling but I won’t dig down too deep in the Wood. Okay? Believe it or not, I’m methodical about the content here but not in an organized fashion. So maybe you can answer some of these burning questions:
- Should subscribers know the rhythm of when you post? Should they expect to hear from you twice a week, if that’s how you roll or once a day? I ask this ’cause word is, if you wanna turn blogging into a profession, posts must be consistent. That’s not my target but for whatever you’re doing on your blog and you want followers, blogging, it’s said, shouldn’t be sporadic.
- What’s too much in your mailbox? Is three times a day too much? Once a day? What?
- Are guest posts okay on the blog you subscribe to or not? What if there was a noted author or noted whoever? Would that be cool?
- What’s your least favorite topic when reading a blog?
- What makes you fall in love with a blog or fall out with it?
These are all general questions you can relate to any blog, not mine specifically. I guess I’d be okay with you telling me something I didn’t wanna know. I don’t know. I’d have to read what you said first. Then, if I didn’t like what you said, I’d blog real bad stuff about you. Just joshing, folks.
Many thanks to all of you. You’re most appreciated. I was about to say I don’t have any thank you gifts to hand out but I do actually. Download this PDF. Listen to it and after you finish your business, hang it on your wall. (Hehehehe!)

As 2011 draws to a close, I wanna give you folks a shout out. Y’all are the slice of apple pie in life that I’m fortunate to be a part of. Thank you for allowing me in the club. I’ve never been a groupie but this has been fun and enlightening, sharing and reading what’s going out there, all over the world. I did have a couple of blogging run-ins though. Not here but out there in the virtual world. Just so you know, it wasn’t intentional but folk receive me or whatever they encounter in life and deal with it according to their own personal
baggage experiences. Sometimes it goes from sugar to shit but you know, I’m all about trying to enjoy the miles ahead of me and I hope you feel the same regarding those ahead of you.
I won’t babble with y’all long ’cause today is all about you. Kinda. Now, in my real life, I tend to want my friends to be friends with each other and what I wanna do here today is introduce you to some other blogs I’ve taken a liking to over the months I’ve been hanging out in the virtual community. Please, forgive me if I don’t give the proper shout out. I may have you listed on my blogroll and I can only list so many folk in this post. Just know that you’re well received here and I value your thoughtful comments, the laughs and all that good stuff. (Holding up my glass of champagne to all of you) Cheers…
Shary Hover – I met through SheWrites.com and I imagine her smiling all the time with a soft voice and easy personality. You’ll also wanna visit Lola, her dog, who’s also a writer and expresses herself quite well.
Sonia Rumzi - She’s my tweet buddy all the way in Hawaii and I’m hating on her for being in fine weather in such an exotic place. She tends to whip up recipes on her blog and give some good advice too. More than that, she writes romance and is real cool folk. She invited me over to Hawaii, so she’s cooler than cool really.
Linda Medrano – Folks, she’s a huge flirt, sassy and classy. We email each other from time to time and she keeps me laughing. I imagine she’s got a pair of penetrating eyes with a hint of wickedness in them that would make her somebody I’d hang out with any day.
Ariana - I read her posts with a Russian accent. I’m fluent that way. She can tell you all about her adventures of being a Russian American. She looooves to laugh and we tweeted while watching a reality show about Russian girls. She didn’t like it though, so I stopped watching it too.
Molly – Now, here’s a smart chick. I’ve come to know about some of the strangest animals over on her blog. She’s also a bit of a health nut and dispenses great wisdom on nutrition, which I can appreciate. I hope you will too, as some of you only have one life (unlike myself). Serendipity 4 Molly can help you make the best of it.
Hansi – Because I liked his name, I went over to his blog and keep going back. He’s funny in the naughtiest way, an artist and got the kinda raw humor that amuses and has me shaking my head most times. He’s a definite comedian. I bet he’s a right fun granddad.
On My Square – This guy IS a comedian and if he ain’t telling it like it is, I don’t know who is. He really knows how to analyze a situation and break it down in ways that make his readers think and laugh and then go, ‘Damn, he really said that.’
Carl Dagostino – It’s light and good fun over at Carl’s place. He’s a retired history teacher too, so don’t go over there saying anything along those lines you ain’t definite about. Once a teacher, always a teacher. He’s a nice guy and you can tell that in his art, that makes you think a bit. He’s a proud granddaddy too.
Granbee – My kinda girl, all southern and whatnot and over on that blog of hers whipping out poetry with a familiar drawl of folk from down yonder. And oh, she’s well connected ’cause Newt Gingrich spoke at her grandson’s graduation from Georgia Tech. Well, it wasn’t her fault, so Granbee’s good folk too.
Marcia – She’s practically been all over the world. I’m glad for her and all but I have to tell ya, I hate on her sometimes for it. She’s what you call Jamerican, being that she’s Jamaican and lived in America for years. Her blog is both educational, entertaining and displays photos of these brilliant places she’s been.
ZenCherry – Her words spread over the page like butter, y’all. She’s got some life experiences she can jabber on and on about that I simply find entertaining. She’s just so sunny to me, loves her hubby and it’s right warm and cozy when I visit with her. I just keep hearing dogs barking all the time.
Nadine Feldman – She’s so generous mentioning me on her blog. Nadine, I suspect, has always been a good girl and now she’s a good woman to a fairly new husband. She’s easy-going and kinda analytical, I gather. A real easy spirit to hang around and I think she likes to hug too, so if you need one…
Nicole Sconiers – Folks, she’s a brilliant writer. I’ve been stalking her blog as she notes life as a full-time writer with her first book on the market. She’s been making her rounds and I can’t say enough about the work itself. Do check her out and support. I expect big things from her in the future.
Phil – What can I say about Phil, y’all? He’s just a good guy who’d give you that slap on the back and has that ‘It’s all good’ attitude. He loves kids, which is always a plus in my book and looks like Paul Newman’s kid brother. I kept thinking he reminded me of somebody ’til Lorna said it. Back off though, ladies. He’s a happily married fella.
Lorna - She just finished telling us all her business through an online memoir on her blog, y’all. The stuff she’s been through and the grace and humor she has in telling her story is amazing. Personally, I don’t know how she did it, even after reading her story. I’m waiting for the Lifetime Movie version, starring Drew Barrymore.
Poetic Journey – She’s got the sweet spirit of a butterfly in springtime. She’s a poet and sends weekly blessings into the virtual community. I felt her in my heart when she was suffering with Sickle Cell Anemia in the hospital. A brave and undaunted soul, she’s a gem.
Thysleroux – He’s a cartoonist, and a handsome one at that! A nice guy, who’s sent me emails to apologize for not being a regular commenter on my blog but also let me know that he’s reading it. Now ain’t that right nice of him? Love his work and like I said, he’s cute. Looks kinda militaryish.
Lisaa Linh – Have some light fun at Bitchin’ Rants. She looooves Lucille Ball and went to an exhibit last month to show some love. Lisa’s cute and she’s cool, always showing how much she appreciates her visitors. I like hanging out with her ’cause she’s got a good sense of fun and humor.
Beverly Diehl – Now, she’s one smart blogger. Seriously, I think she reads a lotta textbooks. And she’s not afraid of tackling controversial topics. You may wanna join her next month in her blogfest on Racism and Discrimination. She goes into lighthearted topics too, so do check out her blog.
Annie Boreson - Boy, can Annie weave and grab you into a story. She could spin a tale on those grandmothers of hers and land on the bestseller list. She definitely has the skills to make that happen with her sensitivity, sprinkles of wit that keeps you in stitches, that also entangles your heart in the sadness of the lives she writes about.
Aurora Morealist – An incessant writer with a big smile. She can cut a rug too. When I first saw her blog, she was blasting men who were serial online daters. So funny! She has a warm heart and don’t cut corners, y’all.
Kim Sisto Robinson – Loves her family and friends, sweet as a chocolate chip cookie but folks, you don’t wanna be on the wrong side of her, I’m telling you. Not that I know, but I can tell. Kim’s big mission is to inform us of the perils of domestic violence. I hope everyone listens.
K Daddy – Lordy, mercy if this man ain’t got a lot to say, I don’t know who does. He shared the story of how his brother died in his arms and I haven’t stopped thinking of it yet. On another hand, he will get shit off his chest, so be ready, folks. He’s not for the faint of heart but I feel he has a big one.
Columbibueno – This chick can write a mean haiku and punch you dead in the stomach. You can also read some paranormal flash fiction over at her place. She really knows about saying a lot with a little and does so very well.
Zahir - A poet who loves music and shows us the interiors of Muslim culture. I’m more informed as a result of visiting his blog and let me also add, he’s funny. Sometimes, we run into each other on Facebook and he’s real good about trying to find ways to irk me but he’s cool anyway.
Writing Feemail – She’s got these recipes over on her blog and while I don’t relish being in the kitchen, I will pass a good word on. With all them fruit and veggies on her site, she feels real earthy and outdoorsy to me. Probably smell like Irish Spring too. Go hang out and get your grub on.
La Femme Roar – However humorous she may be, her words have a way to empower females. Basically, she’s telling women folk not to give IT away and have some good sense about yourself. She’s looking for love but I’m right sure she’s gonna find it in the right place ’cause all her noodles are cooked.
Ursula – Now, she talks in codes sometimes, like she’s in a hostage situation but she’s just being a Bitch on the Blog, as she calls it. I get a real strong sense Ursula’s tall and thin, talks quickly and moves on to the next thing before you can say ‘Boo!’ She’d be a fine writer for a British women’s comedy series.
Michael Ann – She’s a California girl, sunny like the weather and a softie. She also drives a mini van and proud of it; says she looks sexy doing it and I believe her. Michael Ann blogs about a little of everything and I sense there’s a huge halo around her, although she says shit every once in awhile.
The Confirmation Files – I go here to talk politics ’cause a lot of sense goes on over here. Currently, Newt is the big topic, as Herman’s train has come to a screeching halt. It’s laid out real nice and plain over there. This is where you get the scoop and then go to the bar afterwards to argue with folks.
Coco Rivers – There’s a lot going on in Coco’s mind and you might wanna know something about that. She’s a whipper snapper, with the kind of critical eye that I’ve taken a liking to. You can’t go over to her place all willy nilly now. You must put on your thinking cap and, I swear, she and Beverly are gonna make me pick up a textbook yet.
Publik Works – This is a newly discovered blog and she describes herself as an above average crackpot. She’s funny about random stuff and I like her. Can you believe she had her computer for 8 years? Who does that?
I know I haven’t mentioned all who are deserving ’cause all of you are. Do check out the Blogroll for more browsing. I try to stay in good company and I do believe these folk are just that. I hope you find some new blogger friends here that you’ll enjoy reading as much as I have. Abundant blessings and peace to all of you.
And she gave me one over a month ago, so you can see the spirit of procrastination. I also, recently, received another from Donna at My Book of Stories. Celia’s official website is Africa 2 Asia, and she’s over there in China, not very far from where I am now. Though, I will be heading out soon. I won’t go into that right now ’cause I’m still going through a little process.
From Celia, I got The Appreciated Follower Award and Donna prized me with The Versatile Blogger Award. I appreciate and thank you both.
1. I served in the Army National Guard for 6 active years.
2. I’ve been to both Paris and the Czech Republic twice.
3. According to a couple of degrees I have, I’m supposed to be well-educated but I kinda find well-educated folk a little boring.
4. My son, Mr Boy, and his best friend, recently scored so damn high on the test for the military, they can choose ANY freakin’ job they want and have decided to go into intelligence.
5. My paternal grandmother used to call me Totsymae as a kid, so I didn’t make this name up for myself for blogging purposes.
6. I used to have a fascination with the lifestyle of pimps and hos and kinda fancied being a pimp myself at one time.
7. I used to sneak and hide to read romance magazines, which probably was the initial literature that got me really interested in reading as a kid.
Now, to pass the awards along to 5 other bloggers. Here goes again:
Val of Pen Name Valontine – A poet, storyteller and military veteran
Zahir of Just Simply in Love – Loves world music, writes poetry and well traveled
Sonia Rumzi – Published writer and fluent in Arabic
Molly of Serendipity 4 Molly - Nature buff and seems to know everything about it
Virginia of The Purple Dog Painting Blog – Artist and photographer who makes me chuckle
Congrats to all of you and do pass them on.

There’s no better way to live than to give. I’ve always been a giver. That’s one of my innate qualities. Now, in some cases, I could kick myself in the back for giving too much. You know how it goes – you give something like time, a gift you’ve searched high and low for or lo and behold, some of your hard-earned money to someone and the next thing you know, they’ve ticked you off to the 5th power. Oh, it’s a real crunchy kind of feeling. But without harping on that, I want everybody to know, when they come to Totsymae’s, I got a little something for them.
See, I want you to be able to take some of Totsymae away from here and put it to your own use. Yeah, I know the purpose of the site is for you to read stories, novel excerpts and what not but you can’t beat free with a fifty-cents coupon. This free thing was something I was deliberating on yesterday but don’t catch carpal tunnel on the keyboard looking for free stuff today. This is just something I’m putting out there now since it was on my mind. When the time’s right, I’ll post it on the blog. Now, if you’re a subscriber, you’ll have the inside scoop, so lucky you!
In the meantime, I’ll be spending some meditative time in my studio and moving on to writing and painting. I’m cooking up some good stuff on the computer and painting my heart out. All for you.
