Hey, folks. I needed to peep in and give a quick scoop. I’m pressed for time ’cause I’m making my way back to the beauty school to get my do done. I didn’t tell you I walked away from there last week, rather displeased. You talk about somebody who couldn’t wash hair, folks, I had her!
First off, I didn’t have the usual student working on me. Hoooooooney, I got under that wash bowl and Other Person was barely grazing my head and that frustrated the shit outta me! But I was cool and patient. I’m proud of myself ’cause I only showed a hint of irritation a couple times and even left her a tip. Folks, I had to remember that was a school I was in and not a soul dragged my ass in there to be tested on. But it’s all good. I’ll be real happy when I leave there today ’cause Hook Me Up Student knows how to do whaaaaat? Hook Totsy right on up, y’all.
Now, what I wanna holla at y’all for is this little story I started yesterday. You can see it’s like a mini book, so I’ll get back with it and let you know what happens with Desperita and Bootleg Man. Just so you hear it from me, they were both a trip, I thought. Who knows what’ll end up happening with those two. Writing that was totally unplanned, so soon as they let me know what’s going on, you’ll have all the low down and dirty on those two. Check them out tomorrow to see what’s going on.
On another note, since I’m doing the mini book, this week will be the last Flash Fiction Friday. For now. I don’t want any speed bumps on the back end of me finishing up the short story collection. So, I have to give up something for now. Thought I’d run that by you to see if that was okay… Okay, cool. I like folk who can dig where I’m coming from.
Anyhow, I gotta give attention to folk I’ve been reading and about to read. Lately, I’ve been purchasing a lot of indie authors’ works. Denis Gray’s Lucky, I’ve been reading excerpts from his FB page and just ordered the book. He’s got a pretty extensive background in publishing and has written plays, short stories, you name it. I’m about to purchase his short stories on CD too since it’s gotten good reviews. I listened to the samples, folks and it’s hot! If you’re a jazz lover, you’ll enjoy it, I promise. Kenya D.Williamson, I have to credit with starting me in writing flash fiction. I read her first piece on her blog and was like, damn, that’s some good shit! Her novel is Depth of Focus. Sonia Rumzi is my Twitter BFF and absolute doll to me, always retweeting my posts and letting me borrow recipes from her blog, that I’ll more than likely pass on to my son to cook for me since he’s a chef. Her work’s on Smashwords, entitled Caring for Eleanor. Rhonda’s, A Piece of Peace, is another good read for y’all to have a look-see. She’s also a poet and I got to hear it on her website. Nicole Sconiers, y’all, is definitely somebody to watch for. Escape from Beckyville is her debut publication of short stories. You’ll also wanna check out Kaye George’s Choke, which is a mystery and her blog excerpt got me interested. All of these great women folk are SheWriters. Men are there too, so don’t be shy about joining.
Plenty of variety to keep us all well-rounded, yeah? Folks, I gotta go now. I’ve been battling with this damn fly since I started writing this post and it’s about to make me go mad.

I was looking for that post… “Desperita and Bootleg Man” when I caught a blurb about it on SHEWRITES. …nice…in this one I was able to pick up on how much thought you give to your endings;-)
And thanks for the plug. I hope you (& others) do have a chance to read A Piece of Peace. Crack up every time I think about that one!
You know, endings are tough for me. Real tough. Some authors say they know the ending at the outset but that’s very rare for me. I only know the beginning, which usually starts with the title and that’s where writing starts for me.
Tots,
too too too
Love love love all of your posts.
I will check out your other writing….
And btw, Great Art Work.
You are toooooooooooooooooo talented.
PS how much do you charge for your work???
Thank you, Kim. You guys make me blush with embarrassment.
The art generally starts at 75.00. Size, detail and medium plays a part in all of that really. That piece I did of Halle Berry would be a less detailed piece and I would price something like that a bit lower.
I cant wait til friday, so I can find out what is happening to Despirata and her new friend. Love the portrait of Aalyiah, she died way too soon
I’ll be posting it tomorrow, Ariana.
Yes, Aaliyah did leave us too soon. (deep sigh)
Hola – recently hairdressing g’fuffles seem to be everywhichway I turn – today will be a vastly improved experience, what was down must go up – universal law in motion, unless of course the hairstyling experience is gravitating to nadir – you’re a top wordsmith, Totsymae, but it’s your artwork that resonates for me, cheers catchul8r molly
Thank you, Molly.
I’d take one of those students to wash my hair right now, ’cause I’m too lazy to do it myself. But i want someone who’s thorough, I like my hair to squeak.
Glad you’re doing the book of short stories – about damn time!
Looking forward to reading and laughing/smiling.
I hear what you say about not knowing the ending — when I start to write, fiction or non, I only have the first sentence. I let the story lead me. Your stories and you are in an entirely different class my dear. Love to read them.
Good luck with the book,
marcia
Girl, it felt like she was tickling my scalp. Ooh, I was about to go crazy!
Miraculously, I knew how I wanted chapter 2 to end for Bootleg Man. In that case, I had a hard time knowing where to start. Crazy…
Oh, I can only hope I can offer something a bit different. Make sure you check out my post on Saturday…:-)
Oh no, that will just not do! I like to feel fingers scrubbing (sorry, massaging) my scalp. Tickling would make me jump outta that chair.
LOL — that’s funny. I guess it’s like writing backwards, harder.
I’m packing to move so it’s been a little crazy trying to read/comment and keep up. Can’t wait for things to get back to ‘normal,’ whatever that is!
Once again loved your post! I really liked your artwork with this one. When I took art classes (long time ago) I was always intrigued by women’s faces and drew them a lot. Thanks for being your creative self.
Colleen
Thank you, Colleen. When you have time, you should work on drawing again. It takes me away from here and sometimes, I need to be taken.
Tosh – you should read Twyla Tharp’s ‘The Creative Habit’,.. I had to give up a few things this week too because I am editing my finished novel. It’s tough to admit, but I can’t do it all. Darn.. The book is the most important thing to me so that is where my focus has to be until I finish so I can send to agents… Anyway… Good for you..
